In English and Latin, we have infinitives, a fancy word for verbs that begin with 'to' as in "to run, to sing, to dance." All those words are called infinitives. A complementary infinitive is one that completes a sentence, such as "Sextus is afraid to come down." The "to come" is the complementary infinitive. Every verb has an infinitive form and in Latin there are four forms:
Conjugations (verb groups) infinitive translation
1. amare -are to love
2. movere -ere to move
3. ducere -ere to lead
4. audire -ire to hear
Notice how the infinitive form always ends with an '-re' and is translated the same no matter to what conjugation (group) the verb belongs.
Every verb belongs to one of the above verb groups or conjugations, except for the few irregular verbs in Latin and few irregular verb is good.
