The next case to learn, and the last one, is the genitive case. It is used to show possession: the book of the girl. The girl would be in the genitive case and translated with the word 'of'. Its forms are outlined on page 81. This video explains all cases as a great review. It covers all five declensions but the majority of words in Latin are in the first three declensions. Concentrate on those declensions in this video.
Let's do an exercise now to learn the genitive case:
Genitives
Sometimes we can confuse the genitive and nominative plural cases. A hint would be to look at the verb. Is the verb plural, then the subject must be plural. Try an exercise on this point.
Nominatives and Genitives
One more exercise: distinguishing the genitive and dative cases. It's an easy multiple choice exercise.

Let's do a practice on family names. This is a good exercise. It is not as complicated as the video above. Please notice that the genitive case asked for in this exercise also serves another role beside indicating possession: it indicates the declension that the noun belong to. First declension nouns have genitive singular cases ending in -ae, second -i, and third -is. That's why the dictionary always lists the genitive singular of every noun: so we know what declension the noun belongs to. This exercise practices common family relationship words and is good for covering regularly used words.
